Fare Thee Well, Harry Morgan

Today marks the sad news of the passing of Harry Morgan. His was a long career on on our screens, but for me (and for so many others) he is best known as the gruff yet compassionate Colonel Sherman T. Potter on M*A*S*H. Morgan and the character of Potter are one of the many reasons for this beloved show’s longevity and continued presence in the public consciousness. He grounded the doctors and nurses at the 4077, yet he was always able to take part in their hijinks when the fighting let up. I had hoped to share a clip from one of the best M*A*S*H episodes of all time, “Old Soldiers,” but in lieu of Morgan’s heartbreaking performance in that episode’s bittersweet climax, this seems like a fitting tribute. Rest in peace, Mr. Morgan.
